V: Improvement of Vascular Function in Metabolic Disease
Vascular dysfunction results from many different, as yet unknown factors. Long term vascular dysfunction, mostly of unknown origin, is studied in terms of metabolism. It is the quadrangle of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, atherosclerosis and besity that forms the basis of these studies. Special patient groups, transsexuals and babies with low birth weight, allow for avenues to obtain new insight. Short term vascular dysfunction resulting from bacterial infection and often leading to multi-organ failure is the other research objective. Here the multidisciplinary approach is of long standing.
