Roberto Perez started his research career in 1995 at the department of Anesthesiology of the VU University Medical Center. In the period of 1995-2001 he focused on posttraumatic dystrophy of the upper extremity and treatment options for reflex dystrophy, which is nowadays defined as Complex Regional Pain Sydrome (CRPS). Dr. Perez received his Ph.D. degree in 2002 based on the thesis entitled "Complex Regional Syndrome Type I: ‘A randomized controlled study into the effects of two free radical scavengers and evaluation of measurement instruments", and subsequently started as Assistant Professor in the same department.
At this moment, Roberto Perez is supervisor of several Ph.D. students and research coordinator for the researchline Pain & Pain Relief. He actively participates in the research and knowledge area of CRPS, which is illustrated by his position as secretary of the project group for multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment guidelines for CRPS (2003-2006). He is applicant of several successful grant submissions for research purposes. His experience in the area of CRPS is nationally and internationally acknowledged by scientific societies and journals.
dr. Perez is contributor to several scientific papers in the area of CRPS, burn trauma and pain & pain relief.
