The Institute for Cardiovascular Research of the Vrije Universiteit (ICaR-VU) was founded in 1992 on basis of the Dutch University Education Act (WWO) of 1986. Since then, research has become more and more dependent on joint efforts of different research groups within this network. The research signature of the ICaR-VU is collaboration between clinical and basal researchers in focused translational projects and programmes. These projects are part of three research programmes Heart Failure and Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Ischemia and Repair and Circulation and Metabolism. Collaboration, quality improvement and recruitment of external funding are important activities within the Institute.
Research has become more and more dependent on joint efforts of different research groups. As part of the alliance between VUmc and AMC, we initiated the Amsterdam Cardiovascular Sciences institute on the 1st of January 2016, thereby saying farewell to ICaR-VU.
