Research on the biology of head and neck cancer is performed with the Section Tumor Biology. Within this section basic, translational and clinical research is performed on multiple aspects of head and neck cancer. Our main focus is squamous cell carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract, which includes the oral cavity, oropharynx, hypopharynx, larynx and cervical esophagus. Our research is an integral part of the oncological research at the VUMC, as embodied in the CCA .
Tumor Biology has three major research lines:
1) Molecular diagnosis and therapy of cancer and precursor lesions. For details on the investigators in this research line go to
a) Head and neck cancer predisposition
b) Molecular diagnosis and genomics-based staging of head and neck cancer
c) Genes causing head and neck cancer
d) Detection and treatment of oral preneoplasia
