Superb supervision senior – a course for senior PhD supervisors

As an experienced researcher you need to deal with a large variety of responsibilities, one of these is your role as a senior supervisor of PhD candidates. Would you like to improve your guidance and unlock the full potential of these young researchers? Do you encounter challenges in supervision that you would like to discuss with peers? In this course you will learn how to optimize your supervisory skills, particularly in your role as an experienced (co)promotor.

Research consistently shows that good supervision is crucial for a successful and timely PhD trajectory. VUmc Academie together with Mennen Training & Consultancy developed a two-day course that meets the needs of senior PhD supervisors.

In a peer group of experienced researchers and guided by an experienced trainer, the following topics are addressed:
1) the PhD trajectory;
2) optimal alignment with your PhD candidates;
3) your identity as a senior supervisor.

After this course, you will be able to:

  • better manage the PhD candidates’ expectations and facilitate timely and successful PhD projects;
  • better align with your PhD candidates to unlock their potential, both as a scientific and a non-scientific mentor;
  • optimize your strengths as a senior supervisor;
  • effectively share challenges in senior supervision of PhD candidates with peers.

Quotes from participants:

'Highly recommended'
'Relevant and to the point'
'This course increases awareness of the supervision process and communication' 'Contact with peer supervisors is inspiring'
